“A MOMENT IN TIME” <\/span>Perhaps you may be able to recount a single moment in time which stood out as the most profound moment of your life. “Bringing Them Back One At A Time” is the story of Ruth, an elderly woman who had advanced Alzheimer’s Dementia for many years. I first met Ruth at an assisted living center in Colorado. Previously, I tested my program with special needs children. I realized the numeric tonal sequences I taught began initiating the cognitive advancements I documented as they were introduced. I presented my theory it was possible the program may be able to help people with neurological disorders such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease in a lecture at the local assisted living center. Ruth’s daughter, Donna, was the resident brain injury specialist and cognitive rehab specialist at the facility. Donna volunteered her mother for the program and monitored the program’s progress with her mother and two additional residents who also volunteered.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Ruth was confined to a wheel chair. She had a three minute memory retention. She was unable to feed herself. We moved Ruth to the electronic piano keyboard to start her first session. I gently placed her right hand over my wrist. I gently pressed the correct finger on each of the piano keys, one at a time, playing the tonal sequences in the numeric order of the program. I proceeded to her left side repeating the process with Ruth’s left hand. Ruth genuinely enjoyed my working with her playing the sequence of piano keys. Ruth’s first session lasted approximately 45 minutes. Two days later, I returned to the assisted living center for Ruth’s second session. Halfway through the session, I told Ruth to wait just a moment, as I needed to get a chair so that I didn’t hurt my back. The following week, I returned once more to the assisted living center for Ruth’s third session. I loved working with Ruth. I had no idea if what I was doing was having any affect at all, until that remarkable once in a lifetime profound moment in time happened for me. Half way through Ruth’s third session, Ruth asked me “Patty, do you need to get a chair so you don’t hurt your back?” <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

The girls and I have been doing the sequences now consistently for a week. I have to tell you we all feel so much more centered and positive. My oldest daughter who was struggling a lot emotionally, very stressed, was having outbursts, could not focus has done a 180 degree shift. In a matter of days!!! I am so thrilled!! At the same time Patty was composing and producing music for films, she began to teach her understanding of the “language of music.” Rapid acceleration of composition and performance ability demonstrated by her students attracted many local and celebrity clients, and the news media. Patty was interviewed about her methods by ABC News and CNN’s “Looking Up” show.<\/p>\n

Producers from Los Angeles approached Patty about filming her methods of teaching in a video. \u00a0Patty’s “Play the Piano Overnight” video was voted “Best Music Instruction Video” by Billboard magazine. Patty Carlson and I met in 2015 when she hired my company to come\u00a0perform repairs at her house. She handed me her business card for her\u00a0contact info and I curiously asked her what was the meaning of her company name \u201cPiano Logic\u201d. She very kindly spent the next several minutes\u00a0explaining to me the unique teaching method that she had cultivated over\u00a0the years and the incidental and surprising therapeutical impact that it\u00a0was having with people of all ages with different disorders. I was moved by\u00a0her enthusiasm and passion for the benefits that she was witnessing with\u00a0her students. At that point, I opened up to Patty about my 15 year old son\u00a0Max, who is on the autism spectrum, and asked her if there was any way that\u00a0I could have her work with him. She enthusiastically replied yes. Because\u00a0of some professional and personal complications on my end, it was over a\u00a0year before we were able to have my son\u2019s first lesson.<\/p>\n

Patty\u2019s first visit to our home was a visit that I will likely never\u00a0forget. I could tell very quickly that something transformational for my\u00a0son was taking place. Anyone that has a child with autism can tell you how\u00a0incredibly challenging it can be to capture their attention, maintain it,\u00a0and keep them enthused and engaged. Patty did all of that with incredible\u00a0ease and professionalism. I was truly blown away and knew instantly that I\u00a0was witnessing something very special. I have spent every year of my son\u2019s
life addressing issues related to autism and trying so many things to\u00a0brighten his life and to broaden his horizon. It takes a lot to move me,\u00a0but it was not uncommon for my eyes to well up a bit as I was listening\u00a0from the next room over. It wasn\u2019t that I was just proud that my son was\u00a0making rapid progress at playing the piano, it was more of me hearing my\u00a0son ask Patty questions and showing a desire to better his new skills that\u00a0he was discovering. It was the laughter that I heard coming from them both,\u00a0the look of pride on his face after Patty left as he played for me what he\u00a0had just learned, and the random beautiful sounds of the piano playing\u00a0unexpectedly at any given time. I was witnessing the beginning of a bright\u00a0new chapter in my son\u2019s life.<\/p>\n

Once again, professional obligations prevented us from continuing on\u00a0after 6 lessons in 6 weeks, but the impact was profound. Max\u2019s self esteem\u00a0rose in a very healthy way, he had a new found confidence that was\u00a0ushering out his negative feelings of himself. Patty brilliantly showed him\u00a0a glimpse of what he was capable of. Her methods unlocked a code that I\u00a0believe taught his mind new pathways to achieve results that he likely\u00a0perceived unattainable. Max sees possibilities now where before he may have\u00a0only seen obstacles with no desire to pursue. I spend more time with Max\u00a0than any other family member or friend, and I can clearly see where Patty\u2019s\u00a0mark is on his timeline of life. Continuing with her private practice, Patty learned the program had profound effects with Special Needs Children. \u00a0Children with ADD, ADHD, Asperger’s Syndrome, behavioral problems, social problems and children on the Autism Spectrum demonstrated rapid improvement in multiple areas.<\/p>\n

Patty felt she could teach other people how to use the program, either as individuals, or to help their children or loved ones. The fundamentals of the program were always the same. \u00a0Seven musical tones, seven basic forms of music vocabulary, specific fingers used to play the vocabulary from numerically designated points on the piano keyboard.<\/span><\/p>\n

At the same time Patty was finishing her written program, she received an e-mail from a woman in California. Leanne was asking if Patty thought her program could help her son. Patty asked if the family would be willing to test the new instructional program to see if the information would work independently from her personal involvement. \u00a0The family agreed to follow the instructions exactly. \u00a0Piano for Special Needs was to be played exclusively for one month. \u00a0Since Anthony was a teenager, \u00a0Patty would send the Piano Logic Program, Part 1 followed by the Piano Logic Program, Part 2 after the first 30 day program was completed.<\/span><\/p>\n

December 2019<\/p>\n

I am Anthony\u2019s father, David.<\/p>\n

Anthony was a drug baby that we adopted at eight weeks.\u00a0 His birthmother was using meth and barbiturates while he was in utero.\u00a0 Anthony went thru withdrawal symptoms as an infant and the exposure to the drugs left him seriously handicapped, mentally.\u00a0 At about the third grade, we took him to Loma Linda University Medical Center to be tested since we were beginning to see signs of problems in his learning patterns and his development.\u00a0 As a result of their weeks long testing, LLUMC told us that Anthony was unable to use his frontal cortex completely and that his brain was working overtime just to try and do the 3rd grade material.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 He was diagnosed as borderline deficient and we were told that he would probably never get out of the 5th grade.
We were a bit non plussed by this since we could see that Anthony had some very tangible skills, mostly artistic, and was a very good reader.\u00a0 Thus, we assume the report wasn\u2019t necessarily accurate and proceeded to create for him his own IEP to maximize what we saw as his strengths.\u00a0 During this time, he was enrolled in a private, parochial school and the school allowed us, after some haggling, to customize his education to fit his abilities. \u00a0 We then happened upon a seminar on the internet given by Meryl Lipton from The Rush Institute in Chicago that dealt with non-verbal learning disorders. My wife and I were intrigued since Dr. Lipton\u2019s descriptions seemed to match up quite closely to what we were seeing in Anthony.\u00a0 We reached out to her, and met her, along with Anthony.\u00a0 After an hour or so with him, she indicated the best way for us to proceed was to have him actually tested and diagnosed by a trained professional.
We took Anthony to her referral, John Watkins, in Santa Monica, for extensive testing.\u00a0 Upon completion he told us that Anthony was autistic, and not slight so.\u00a0 The prognosis wasn\u2019t great, but was better than what we experienced at LLUMC.
Also, the research on drug, and especially meth babies, was beginning to emerge.\u00a0 It appears that meth babies tend to mature late and that by their early thirties they may actually be able to live by themselves and cope with life.\u00a0 Anthony was about 11 years old at this point.
We continued with Anthony\u2019s IEP and actually were able to help him to receive his diploma from high school.\u00a0 Math will never be an easy subject for him, but he did well enough to get through high school.
It was at this point that we ran into Patty Carlson and her program.\u00a0 She wanted to work with Anthony and would allow us to monitor the program and report back to her.\u00a0 She sent the manuscripts to us.\u00a0 Anthony took to the program quite quickly and seemed to be very involved and engaged.\u00a0 We didn\u2019t even have to remind him to do the exercises. He was self-driven.<\/p>\n

Anthony was not ready to go away for college yet, so he enrolled in the local community college where he mostly ended up taking voice and musical theatre classes, which he excelled at.\u00a0 His entry scores for math were extremely low.\u00a0 However, after months of working with the Piano Logic manuscripts, he was able to pass a winter break math class that year.\u00a0 Anthony will say that Piano Logic helped him with math, but he sees the math progress most especially in the 3D architectural world in which he is currently studying.\u00a0 \u00a0 Simple addition and subtraction are no longer impossible mountains to climb. He seems to have improved in carrying information from one area of the brain to another.\u00a0 From my perspective, I haven\u2019t seen a huge increase in math ability, but I have been totally awed by the talent it unlocked in him musically.\u00a0 Before this program Anthony was unable to read music and his experimenting with music was mostly plinking away at the keys of a piano.\u00a0 However, as he got deeper into the program he became very good at playing musical pieces by ear, at first, and then later learned to read AND write music.\u00a0 He is composing songs, music, and lyrics for his college theatre as well as having one of his works performed and recorded by a Disney production company. This past summer he was hired to play the music for the senior class graduation.\u00a0 He has truly unlocked something special in himself through Piano Logic.
Anthony is in his junior year of college and living on his own two hours from home.\u00a0 He is doing things that we mostly dreamed he would be able to do.\u00a0 He will tell you that the most important thing he took to college with him was his keyboard.\u00a0 He, to this day, returns to the Piano Logic exercises time and time again as he feels they help him to sort things out in his brain.\u00a0 He says that it helps him to think more logically.
We have high hopes that Anthony will be able to continue on with his life as an active and productive member of society, and in no small part, that will be because of the help he got from Patty Carlson and the Piano Logic program.<\/p>\n

August, 2019<\/strong> Patty was introduced to a local family looking for help for their special needs children. \u00a0Eleven year old son, Kaden, was performing at a third grade level at fifth grade. Three year old son Cale had been diagnosed with apraxia. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The family gave Patty a flyer they produced to help people understand how Apraxia affects their son.<\/p>\n

Curious to see if Piano for Special Needs program would benefit the children, Patty suggested they purchase an inexpensive keyboard and follow the program’s directions. The Piano for Special Needs program was the only program used with the younger son, Cale. \u00a0<\/p>\n

Approximately thirty days later, Patty offered eleven year old Kaden the Piano Logic program Part 1 and Part 2 on DVD to study at home.<\/p>\n

Three months after providing the programs to the family, Patty received a letter regarding Cale and Kaden’s progress.<\/p>\n
